Janet's house is enormous - 4000 square feet and spotless.  Her kitchen is huge, with an island and thousands of drawers and cupboards.  I am green with envy.  She also has a PhD in childhood education, and specializes in children with disabilities.

Trevor and I each have our own room and bathroom, what luxury.

Trevor spent most of the day finishing up the computer problems.  One of the places he works for is called Yukon Learn, which deals with adult illiteracy, much like Project Literacy here in Victoria where I volunteered last year.  Yukon Learn is in an old house, and of course has lots of computers (hence Trevor's involvement), with a kitchen and offices.  A very nice atmosphere.

We finally left Whitehorse at 2:00 and drove to Minto.  It is completely deserted, nothing there but one other van.

We got in the water and pushed off at 6:27 p.m.  We decided to delay our gourmet dinner until tomorrow, and just ate bread and cheese and pepperoni in the canoe.

The weather was perfect.  We saw lots of beaver, usually not until they hit the water with a great splash of the tail.

There are dozens of islands in the river.  Sometimes it is very wide and calm, other times it is narrower with shallow little ripple and wave sections.  We prefer the more lively water, and a lot of the time paddle very close to the shore, where it is more challenging, the sense of speed is greater, and the wildlife more visible.

We arrived at Fort Selkirk at 10:30, still sunny.  There was only one other person camping, a young Japanese fellow who had arrived by kayak.

We set up our tents and sat drinking wine and watching the gorgeous sunset over the river at 11:30, all covered up against the mosquitoes.
